The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region is accepting proposals for the Neighbors in Need Fund for the current Safety-Net/Direct Services Request for Proposals.

The Neighbors in Need Fund makes grants throughout the year through a competitive grant-application process. This spring, the fund will award grants to nonprofit direct service organizations in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area whose primary purpose is to help low-income and disadvantaged adults and children with basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing, emergency financial assistance, prescriptions, and foreclosure prevention. Priority will be given to groups experiencing an increase in demand for service (within the past twelve to twenty-four months) as a result of the economic crisis.

Applicant organizations must serve residents of the greater Washington region, which includes Washington, D.C.; Montgomery County and Prince George’s County in Maryland; and Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William counties, and the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church, Manassas, and Manassas Park in Virginia. Previous applicants to and grantees of the Neighbors in Need Fund are eligible to apply.

Grants will be made in amounts of up to $25,000 each.

A conference call will be held on March 17, 2010, for organizations specifically interested in applying for the Safety-Net Services Spring 2010 RFP.
