Maine Family Literacy Initiative Announces 2010-2011 Request for Proposals

The Maine Family Literacy Initiative, a program of the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy is designed to support the development of family literacy in the state of Maine.

Through its 2010-11 Request for Proposals, the initiative will provide approximately $350,000 in total funding throughout the state for literacy programs that begin after July 1, 2010.

Grants are available to local educational agencies, correctional agencies, community-based organizations, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, public institutions, or a consortium of such agencies. Applicants must be based in and provide services in Maine. Applicants must have been in existence for two or more years and must already provide adult literacy, early childhood, or interactive intergenerational literacy as part of their organizational mission.

Planning grants of up to $5,000 each are available for the exploration and planning of future family literacy programs. Family literacy grants of up to $25,000 each are available to establish a family literacy program, allow for innovative projects within existing family literacy programs, or replicate successful family literacy programs with a new population or in a new location.
