The James Irvine Foundation Leadership Awards are designed to highlight and support the work of individuals who are advancing innovative and effective solutions to significant state issues.

The Irvine Foundation anticipates making four to six awards in 2010. Nominees may be working in any field — including education, health, housing, economic development, or the environment — in the public, private, or nonprofit sector.

Award recipients will each receive $125,000 for their work to benefit the people of California. At least $100,000 of the award is designated for core support of the leader’s project or organization, and up to $25,000 may be used for the leader’s own professional development. Recipients also receive additional resources for their efforts to share promising approaches to critical state issues with policy makers and practitioners.

Recipients may also apply to a special fund for a grant of up to $75,000 each annually, over one or two years, to communicate with policy makers and practitioners about their model.

Nominations are invited from people who are well-acquainted with the leader or leadership group and can attest to their qualifications.

Visit the Irvine Foundation Web site for complete program guidelines and nomination procedures.
