The Tufts Health Plan Foundation, which is committed to funding Healthy Aging programs for adults ages 60 and older in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, has announced two grant cycles for 2010.

The foundation’s programs are designed to elevate the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of older adults; enable them to contribute their experiences and knowledge to their communities; and ultimately help older adults live longer, healthier lives. The foundation makes grants in three Healthy Aging areas — Vibrant Lifestyles, programs to improve the physical and mental health of senior citizens and to increase their social, civic, and/or community engagement; Intergenerational Collaboration, programs to enrich the health and well-being of both older adults and young people; and Keeping Our Seniors Safe, programs to prevent injury from falls and programs of support for family and other informal caregivers.

The foundation makes grants to nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations and accredited colleges and universities whose programs best exemplify activities that lead to beneficial outcomes for older adults in these three Healthy Aging focus areas. Applicant organizations must be based in or primarily serve Massachusetts and/or Rhode Island.

Applicants must first submit a Letter of Inquiry in order to be considered for a full proposal. Only invited applicants will be allowed to submit full proposals. For Cycle 1, Letters of Inquiry will be due January 25, 2010, with full proposals due March 24, 2010. For Cycle 2, Letters of Inquiry will be due June 1, 2010, with full proposals due July 27, 2010.

The grant guidelines for 2010 will be the same as in 2009 and can be found on the foundation’s Web site.
